First-person notes on product decisions, execution, and lessons from this project.

Goodstart Maps is an interactive project created to allow users to explore the world in a visual, curious, and educational way.

The idea behind the project is to turn a map into a gateway to content about countries, cultures, languages, travel, curiosities, and global topics. Instead of presenting content only through lists, articles, or traditional pages, users can navigate the world, click on countries, and discover information in a freer and more engaging way.

The project is still under development, but it already represents an important direction within the Goodstart ecosystem: creating digital experiences that bring students closer to the real world and reinforce the idea that learning English also means expanding cultural awareness.

What is being built

Goodstart Maps was designed as an interactive map-based experience, with country-based navigation and the possibility of gradually expanding its content.

The main planned elements include:

  • an interactive map for global exploration;
  • visual highlighting of countries during navigation;
  • interaction through click, hover, and map movement;
  • contextual content about countries and regions;
  • connection with cultural, linguistic, and educational topics;
  • an experience adapted for desktop and mobile;
  • a foundation prepared for future expansion with states, provinces, or internal regions;
  • the possibility of integrating sounds, animations, and more immersive visual elements.

Role in the project

In this project, I worked on the concept of the experience, the interface structure, and the initial implementation of the interactive map.

The work involves thinking not only about the technical side of the map, but also about the role this experience plays within the Goodstart brand. The goal is not to create a generic map, but a discovery tool that helps users explore the world in a way connected to English learning, international culture, and global curiosity.

This requires decisions about navigation, interaction, content organization, visual states, responsiveness, and future growth possibilities.

Product and technology decisions

The project was structured with a focus on interactivity, performance, and gradual expansion. The foundation using Astro, TypeScript, Cloudflare, and Leaflet.js makes it possible to create a fast, visual, and flexible experience for geographic exploration.

The choice of a lightweight web architecture makes it easier to publish new versions, test interactions, and integrate future editorial or educational content from Goodstart.

The project prioritizes:

  • visual and intuitive exploration;
  • an interactive experience instead of linear navigation;
  • strong map loading performance;
  • adaptation to different screen sizes;
  • a structure prepared to grow with new content;
  • a connection between geography, culture, English, and global discovery.

Expected result

Goodstart Maps is not finished yet, but it already works as a strategic piece within Goodstart’s vision.

The project expands the brand experience beyond courses and articles, creating an environment where users can actively explore the world. It reinforces the idea that English is not just a subject, but a tool to access cultures, stories, places, and opportunities.

Once finished, Goodstart Maps may serve as an educational resource, support material for classes, a discovery tool for students, and also a public brand experience aligned with Goodstart’s positioning of opening a window to the world.
